German Actor Daniel Brühl Cast as Karl Lagerfeld in Disney+ Miniseries
Daniel Brühl will play Karl Lagerfeld in an upcoming miniseries, "Kaiser Karl," which focuses on the designer's rise in the 1970s and his rivalry with Yves Saint Laurent.
The miniseries is a coproduction between Disney+ and Gaumont and is based on the biography of the same name by Raphaëlle Bacqué.
Brühl is known for his roles in "Inglourious Basterds," "Good Bye Lenin!," and "Woman in Gold."
The Karl Lagerfeld fashion house is also backing a feature film with Jared Leto set to play the designer.
The situation is reminiscent of the rival biopics of Yves Saint Laurent that were released in 2014.
The full cast of the miniseries was unveiled, including Théodore Pellerin as Jacques de Bascher, Arnaud Valois as Yves Saint Laurent, and Alex Lutz as Pierre Bergé.
The production is currently shooting in France, Monaco, and Italy.
It will feature approximately 3,000 costumes, 160 of which will be created by its sewing studios.
Pascaline Chavanne, who has won two César awards for costume design, will create the outfits for the series set against the backdrop of luxurious apartments, fashion shows, iconic party venues, and couture houses.
